Westside Ballet to Introduce Culver City Dance Students to Russian Guest Artists (Escapees) – May 7

May 4, 2022

Five local dance students from Culver City are set to share the world-class wide stage with accomplished professional guest artists in their first spring performance since June 2019. Santa Monica’s Westside Ballet is going beyond its traditional realm to explore the week -end of Mother’s Day “New Horizons”. On Saturday evening May 7, the company celebrates a return to spring on the Broad Stage with A small eveninga special event with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and acclaimed guest artists Maté Szentes and former Lyrica Woodruff in Balanchine’s signature Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux– plus surprise appearances from famous alumni – having recently fled Russia – Joy Womack and Adrian Blake Mitchell (accompanied by his Slovak partner, Andrea Laššáková).

Student dancers featured will be Serena Klipfel, Linka Tiesiera, Isla Segar, Evelyn Chung and Heath Olvera.

On Sunday, May 8, the festivities continue with a Mother’s Day champagne reception and an encore of the springtime “New Horizons” performance (featuring a single guest artist performance by Westside alumnus Mr. Mitchell with Mrs. Laššáková, in Oleg Vinogradov’s moving Barber’s Adagio).

The Pre-Professional Performance Company’s Weekend Events Pay Tribute to the Life-Renewing Qualities of Spring with a Demonstration of How the Ballet World Re-emerges Resiliently: Experiencing Artistic Growth and with renewed energy, blossoming creatively with new visions, ideas and experiences. The company has successfully withstood the pandemic and is beginning its season to thrive with reinvented repertoires. Westside Ballet’s “New Horizons” presentation will delight Los Angeles audiences with wonderfully varied works, from the most classic choreographers and composers to an original neoclassical contemporary piece with a commissioned score.
