The Vermilion Historic Opera House will become the Cleveland Ballet’s summer home

The Harbourtown Fine Arts Center and the city of Vermilion welcome the Cleveland Ballet as the first professional ballet company in residence. In late summer 2022, the 28-member Cleveland Ballet company will take the stage from August through September at Harbourtown Fine Arts Center, a nationally recognized landmark opera house set to undergo extensive renovations this year.

The Cleveland Ballet will offer a unique program that will include classical, neoclassical and new works. The diverse repertoire will be performed in collaboration with eminent classical musicians and opera singers, offering Vermilion audiences the opportunity to experience three magnificent art forms by world-class artists.

Cleveland Ballet’s new summer residency positions the company with premier summer programs like the Cleveland Orchestra at the Blossom Music Center, New York City Ballet in Saratoga, NY, and the Santa Fe Opera Festival.

“We are thrilled to partner with the charming town of Vermilion. This is a unique opportunity for our company to expand our audience in Northeast Ohio to not only locals, but also summer tourists. who otherwise wouldn’t be able to see our traditional performances at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland,” said co-founder, president and CEO Michael Krasnyanksy, PhD.

Dr. James Chapple, Chairman of Harbourtown Fine Arts Centre, said, “This is an incredible opportunity not only for Harbourtown Fine Arts Center but also for the City of Vermilion. This partnership continues our mission to ‘foster the growth of fine art in the community’ and enable Vermilion residents to see and experience all forms of art. We believe we can continue the restoration of this historic building with fundraising opportunities with the Cleveland Ballet, as well as bringing performances from the troupe to our citizens. Vermilion Mayor Jim Forthofer also expressed his thoughts saying “Harbourtown Fine Arts Center is an important part of Vermilion’s cultural growth. I’m thrilled they’ve brought the prestigious Cleveland Ballet to our beautiful little community. and gave them a summer residence for our new cultural partner.”

The Cleveland Ballet will present its first performance of Momentum on the magnificent score of Felix Mendelssohn, and choreographed by co-founder and artistic director Gladisa Guadalupe in Vermilion as part of the Saturday, September 18 summer residency at Village Green Park, located across from City Hall.
