Smuin kicks off the new year with her “Dance Series 1: Love Smuin” featuring the company premiere of internationally renowned choreographer Gina Patterson, You Are Here.
This moving work inspired by loss and perseverance, to the music of Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi, received its world premiere with the Cincinnati Ballet where it was titled “Strength and whirling … an endless series of surprises” by the Cincinnati Inquire. Also on the program, two favorites from former choreographer-in-residence Smuin Amy Seiwert, including the charming Dear Miss Cline, a series of light works in homage to the famous country singer Patsy Cline.
Also featured will be Been Through Diamonds, Seiwert’s first work as Smuin’s first choreographer in residence, a role she assumed when she retired from dance in 2008. Seiwert’s geometrically inventive movement is featured. in this neo-classical look at the relations between four couples, on Mozart’s String Quintet in C minor. Note: Following the live performances, this program will be offered as an on-demand virtual streaming option, available during the month of March.
