Miami Cuban Classical Ballet to present “Jewels of Russian Ballet”

The Miami Cuban Classical Ballet (CCBM), with artistic director Eriberto Jimenez, presents an exciting co-ed program at the Seminole Theater, 18 N. Krome Ave. at Homestead, Friday March 26 at 7:30 p.m.

“Russian Ballet Jewelry” will highlight selected pieces from the most famous classical ballet repertoire of the famous Russian impresario of the early 1900s, the choreographers of the “Russian Ballet” by impresario Sergei Diaghilev, Mikhail Fokine and Marius Petipa, notably: Scheherazade, based on the female character and storyteller from the Collection of Middle Eastern Tales known as “A Thousand and One Nights”; The Firebird derived from Russian moral fairy tales and The Awakening of Flora, the 1894 ballet by Marius Petipa on the Greek myth of Flore, goddess of spring.

CCBM’s original Hispanic-influenced works include Yerma, a tragic poem by Spanish playwright Federico García Lorca about Rodrigo’s beloved guitar concerto, tells the story of a childless woman in rural Spain and her longing desperate for motherhood, an obsession that drives her to commit a horrific crime.

Habaneras, La Habanera, with music by famous Cuban composer Ignacio Cervantes, is a sign of cultural identity and artistic expressions ranging from intimacy to higher and romantic states of mind.

Lecuona Suite is set to music by the famous Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona.

The Miami Cuban Classical Ballet was founded in 2006 by the late Cuban director and choreographer Pedro Pablo Pena with the mission of promoting and preserving the classical ballet repertoire, as evidenced by the famous Cuban School of Ballet.
