Ballet Kelowna celebrates its 20th anniversary season with a special program.
On November 4 and 5, Kelowna Ballet will present Suction at the Kelowna Community Theater.
The program features a selection of inspiring works by Cameron Fraser-Monroe, who grew up in the North Okanagan.
Fraser-Monroe will be Ballet Kelowna’s first artist-in-residence.
“Taqš [tawKESH] is inspired by the traditional First Nations story, Raven Returns the Water. My movement style, so the movement you will see on stage, is a combination of my background in grass dancing, hoop dancing and Coast Salish dancing as well as my ballet and contemporary training, c is therefore very unique. It’s something the Kelowna Ballet is one of the few presenters to have on its stage,” he said.
Artistic Director and CEO of Ballet Kelowna, Simone Orlando, says the program is extremely diverse.
“Ranging from contemporary to more neoclassical through a very classic piece by Robert Stephen.”
Ballet Kelowna began work on the Aspirations program in early August.
“Taqš is a work that we originally created in 2021, but Cameron is here re-editing the work for presentation for the very first time in front of an in-person audience, so we’re very excited about it” , Orlando said.
