It’s that time again like music hall again presents one of America’s most influential and innovative dance companies, Complexions Contemporary Ballet-Sunday June 17 at 4 p.m. on the main stage, which will close the celebration of Detroit Music Weekend.
Complexions Contemporary Ballet Company under Founder Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rhoden has become one of the most recognized and respected performing arts brands in the world. This New York-based company is sure to excite audiences with their athleticism, lyricism and technical virtuoso.
Their deep connection to the Music Hall spans almost a decade, as we have always closed our season with this now iconic dance company. Two years ago, Music Hall commissioned Complexions’ most famous offering, “Star Dust,” a tribute to david bowie which premiered here at the Music Hall in June 2016 and has since sold out everywhere it has been performed.
This year Teints will also present its piece of repertoire Walk up to…a work about unrequited love Jeans Sebastian Bach“Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue” and “Partita #2 and gutter sequins.
Complexions was founded in 1994 by master choreographer Dwight Rhoden and the legendary Desmond Richardson with a singular approach to reinventing dance through a revolutionary mix of methods, styles and cultures. Today, Complexions represents one of the most recognized and respected performing arts brands in the world. Having presented an entirely new and exciting vision of human movement across 5 continents, over 20 countries, to over 20 million viewers and over 300,000 people live, Complexions is set to continue its mission to bringing unity to the world one dance at a time.

Complexions has received numerous awards, including the New York Times Critics’ Choice Award. It appeared all over the United States, including the Joyce Theater/NEW YORK, Lincoln Center/NEW YORK, Brooklyn Academy of Music/NEW YORK, mahalia jackson Performing Arts Theater/New Orleans, Primal Theater/Seattle, The Music Center/Los Angeles, Winspear’s Opera/Dallas, Cutler Majestic Theatre/Boston, New Victory Theatre/NY and Music Hall/Detroit, The Bolshoi Theatre, The Kremlin, The Mikhailovsky Theatre, Melbourne Arts Center, and will debut at the Kennedy Center in 2017, as in the part of Ballet Across America.
