WEST HARTFORD, CT — Ballet Theater Company will present its second Black-box show this weekend, and it will feature contemporary, modern, classical and neo-classical ballet.
Titled “Up Close: Spring,” performances will take place Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Ballet Theater Company’s Rose and Nancy Compton Studio. The show is only the second live performance to take place at the studio, which was built in January 2020.
Two contemporary/modern works that emphasize the importance of mindfulness will be presented: “Dixit Dominus” and “Happiness Doesn’t Wait”.
“This work is inspired by the absence of breath,” choreographer Kate St. Amand said of Dixit Dominus. “It’s a tribute to those who have suffered, and a practice of gratitude for every breath we are able to take.”
The show will also feature “Serenade in A,” which features a quartet of women dancing to Igor Stravinsky; and “Bluebird Pas de Deux”, which comes from the Act IV wedding scene in Sleeping Beauty.
After the performance, attendees can join in a chat with one of the choreographers, and the first 60 ticket buyers can grab a free drink at Gastropark.
Tickets are $40 and all attendees must show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination at the door and are asked to wear a mask, officials said.
