(HOLMDEL, NJ) – Dance fans will have to wait until fall to travel to Manhattan and see the return of many of the country’s top companies. In the meantime, the New York dance world is coming to the Garden State. Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater (AXCBT), the professional ballet company founded by Elise Feldman and Gabriel Chajnik as part of a program for Ocean Township’s Axelrod Performing Arts Center (APAC), will perform “Three’s a Crowd” at the Bell Works in Holmdel from July 29 to 2 August.

This original program, hosted by AXCBT Company Director Gabriel Chajnik, features iconic masterpieces by Paul Taylor, Martha Graham and new dance pieces from members of the New York City Ballet, Martha’s Dance Company. Graham, the Juilliard School and national and international choreographers.

“Three is a crowd,” it is hoped will be the final chapter in Covid’s dance, with each dance created for one, two, and even three dancers.

An intimate program of beautiful and exciting dances, “Three’s a Crowd” will include an eclectic playlist of music from Wagner and Mendelssohn to Astor Piazzola to Zoe Keating; as well as a special arrangement for string quartet by composer Chris Becker of the epic ballad “Heroes” by David Bowie.

New York composer Chris Becker composed Devotion, an original string quartet, inspired by glam rocker David Bowie, to perform live. White-McGuire, who will choreograph Devotion, believes the piece “draws on the tenacity and dedication of performing artists, audiences and presenters who have continued to explore their art and expression for the sake of life. during isolation. It is a love letter to people who refused to let their light go out.

“’Three’s a Crowd’” has represented dance from its very foundation, from master dancers Paul Taylor and Martha Graham to new national and international choreographers who willingly take risks on and off the stage, ”explains Chajnik. “This program comes full circle after a year of struggle and a reminder that dance is about passion, dynamism and a vehicle for healing.”

The program brings together an elite roster of world-renowned artists, including Michel Trusnovec, which will stage an extract from “Roses” by Paul Taylor Blakeley White-McGuire, from the Martha Graham Dance Company, who will perform “Lamentations” and “Satiric Festival”, and Maestro Hector Zaraspe, Juilliard Dance Faculty Emeritus as well as director AXCBT Gabriel Chajnik, in addition to young emerging choreographers, including the Italian Riccardo from Nigris (La Scala), the New York City Ballet Gilbert Bolden III as well as two members of the company, both graduates of Alvin Ailey, Olivia miranda and Lindsay Jorgersen.

“Three’s a Crowd” will take the stage for a limited engagement of six shows at the Bell Works in Holmdel, NJ. The performances are Thursday July 29 and Friday July 30 at 7 p.m., July 31 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Sunday August 1 at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Bell Works is located at 101 Crawfords Corner Road in Holmdel, New Jersey.
